Gum Surgery

Gum surgery procedures involve reducing or augmenting (adding) tissue surrounding teeth.

As a result of aggressive tooth brushing or simply tooth position, the gum tissue around a tooth may be inadequate to cover the entire root surface. An exposed root surface can be sensitive to touch, hot and cold liquids or air. There are a few types of gum surgeries that can thicken gum tissue and cover exposed roots. If the issue was initially caused by aggressive tooth brushing or another habit, it should be noted that unless the behaviour stops, the condition may recur.

Gum surgery is accomplished during a short appointment and is often performed with the use of normal numbing techniques. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled a week or two later to assess healing and the success of the treatment.
