Dentures & Partial Dentures

Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and tissue. When a patient loses many or all of their teeth, dentures allow the patient to chew and speak again. Dentures also support facial structure, preventing the sunken lower facial features that can result from loss of teeth and gum tissue. They can also be designed to look as good or better that your original, natural smile.

Complete dentures replace all of the teeth in an arch – the upper (maxillary) arch and/or the lower (mandibular) arch. Partial dentures replace some missing teeth and rely on remaining teeth for support and stability.

Creating your perfect set of dentures may require several appointments over a period of several weeks. Cook’s Bay Dental has an on-site Denturist who will take precise molds and measurements. After the dentures are fabricated, additional fittings and adjustments will be required to ensure proper fit, function and appearance. The Denturist will also provide guidance for optimal care and cleaning.

When some or all of the teeth are missing in the mouth, the underlying bone continues to change over time. As a result, your denture may begin to loosen and move. A great option for stabilizing and retaining an existing or new denture is through the use of dental implants (see our section on dental implants for more details). In many cases, this can be achieved with as few as two implants for a bottom denture and four implants for an upper denture. This additional stability can greatly improve chewing and speaking functions and also provide you with confidence while eating and speaking while in company.
